Our last day here. After a morning game drive and lunch we start walking to our hut. The camp manager stops us and tells us there is an aggressive elephant on the path and we must wait. This has happened before. Those pesky elephants.
When we are finally escorted to our room we find they have left us a bottle of champagne, filled our claw-foot tub with a bubble bath and lit candles in the room. We could get used to this.
This is my "surreptitious" way of posting to this blog - for two reasons.
ReplyDeleteFirst is to give my kudos to Sandy and all of her smarts and efforts in putting together this blog. I never even heard of doing such a thing, and she figured it out, put it together, and then did all the "heavy lifting" in keeping it going during the trip - not an easy thing when you are in East Africa. It made it much more fun for us, and hopefully we didn't bore you all too much. I figure - if Obama "tweets" his well wishes to the women's soccer team, then someone may also care to hear from us when we're half-way around the world.
Second thought: We are back, and the trip went fine, but that is a LONG WAY. Five flights. Total flying time about 18 hours. And we're talking the cheap seats here - no eating steak and laying down to sleep. Since arriving home, I have already had pepperoni pizza and chicken wings, and I have my sights set on some Jiff peanut butter. (All my idea of "comfort food".)
So, we're "back in the saddle", sort of. I know Sandy plans to do some final blogging. The way it looks - two weeks to take pictures, two years to sort through them. Ah, the magic of digital photography. You can take 10 pictures of the same thing, and then supposedly figure out which one is the best - when in fact you frequently pitch them all for a different scene.
Best to all of you. It was a great trip and we have enjoyed sharing some of it with you. As I sit here looking out of my 37th floor windows at the surrounding land, remembering that since returning I have already spotted a robin, a squirrel and - well, actually that's all so far - I am reminded of something Sandy says on occasion: "And we live in Indiana, why?"
